I couldn't afford to buy the medical insurance the school tried to require students to buy. I got extremely sick, and had to go to the ER for an out-of-control ear and throat infection that was one shade shy of giving me septic shock. The hospital knew I couldn't pay. Their social worker worked with me for three months to get me on Medicaid. I was low income, and so I qualified. It worked; the ER got paid retroactively, and for the next two years I had some of the best medical care of my life. I was able to graduate in 2010, but the job market tanked. At the end of my contract now, I may face unemployment. If this happens, and Romney slashes Medicaid, I will go without medical coverage. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
