Please). Sadly they think it's funny when it DOES get to me a little; unbeknownst to them I get the most upset at the friends that do this but also have failed to realize how much of a REAL struggle it has been for me to make even the smallest decisions about my own body.
Why as 17 year olds did my male friends have NO trouble buying condoms from the convenience store but I had to jump through hoops for a doctor to prescribe me hormonal birth control--but not before I got a lecture about how I shouldn't use it as birth control but just as something to regulate my period?
Why as a 19 year old did I get SO MUCH difficulty from KP employees when I had to exhume their outside references department (which in itself took eons to get the right number for; it's too much of a coincidence that three different employees gave me the wrong phone number for it) to ask for an abortion for health reasons--not that the reasons were any of their business anyway?
Why as a 20 year old was I scorned by my primary care doctor when I said that I wanted an IUD to prevent any more accidents that could danger my health any further?
It doesn't matter and I shouldn't have to iterate that I want these services because I could die if I were to carry a pregnancy to full term. I don't want the right of choice because I'm "one of the exceptions." I want the right of choice because I DESERVE it.
WE deserve it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2501871874894175622.post-85981323805896201222013-03-15T20:34:04.005-04:002013-03-15T20:34:04.005-04:00Thank you for the things you write about and thing...Thank you for the things you write about and things you bring into the spot light. I have been through many things in my 31 years of life and I never had the courage to speak up. As a child I was taught not to have a opinion and keep my mouth shut. When I became an adult it just stuck. I am working on myself to learn how to use my words and speak up and get help for the horrible things that have happened in my life. It's so hard sometimes to hear all the misogynistic voices, and without those counter voices like yours, it'd be much worse. Thanks! And I'm a male, so I'll never be directly affected by any of this, but I have a mother, aunts, sisters, ex-wives, a current wife, daughters, and many female friends... It's just simply the right thing to do to protect the health - physical and mental - of the ladies that I know and love.Rich Stowhttps://www.facebook.com/#!/richard.stownoreply@blogger.com
